Nineties-inspired looks dominated the runway this fall and have since crept their way back into my closet, and probably yours, in the form of plaid, platform creepers, midriff-baring tops, spaghetti-strap slip dresses...the list goes on. But my focus today is slip dresses, those sexy (often satin) little numbers you sleep and sip red wine in, which you should shift in your mind from nightwear to daywear. The key to smooth slip-ping is to pair it with bulkier items like a chunky sweater or a tailored wool coat as pictured.

When I saw Rag & Bone's spring 2014 take on the lingerie trend, I knew I found my perfect piece to harken back to my nineties days. My mission then became to find an affordable version for myself. I had been eyeing this particular slip dress from Zara for some time but resolved to avoid the world's largest retailer and instead found my limited edition Reformation schoolgirl slip: perfectly flouncy and just the right hue of monochrome plaid. It looks adorable without a turtleneck for a sexy evening look (I mean...did you see the open back?!) and for the colder winter months you can easily throw a chunky knit over it.
