Fur pieces, faux or real, tend to be something I'm willing to splurge on. Worn tastefully, fur can add instant flair to any basic look. I vividly remember as a little girl admiring my mother's sartorial winter elegance: black leather gloves and that coveted milk chocolate sable coat. That fur jacket was once my great-grandmother's sable darling and now is a revered family heirloom. Granted my sister's permission, it will become my next boyfriend and my future daughter's prized possession.

If you aren't afraid to take some heat from animal lovers, and you want to turn heads while staying warm and looking fabulous, go to your nearest consignment store -- there you'll likely find beautifully crafted furs for a very affordable price.
